Do you talk to the person doing the work?

Do they understand AI search, or just repeat the term?
Ask what specifically changes in their process for AI Overviews, ChatGPT, or Perplexity. A vague answer is a real signal.
Are you locked into a long contract?
Month to month terms mean a consultant has to keep earning your business every month, not just at signing.
